Renowned for their explosive rhythmic interplay and soaring dynamic range, Half Moon Run has given fans a taste of Salt by unveiling four captivating singles from the album: "9beat", "Alco", "You Can Let Go", and "Everyone's Moving Out East".
Salt represents the culmination of Half Moon Run's twelve-year journey, marked by their unwavering collaborative power. The album weaves beauty and sadness, harmony and menace, despair and groove, showcasing the band's signature ability to blend contrasting moods. From revisiting their origins to exploring the anxieties of the present moment, the album delves deep into a spectrum of emotions, offering a glimmer of hope in these trying times.
Produced under the visionary guidance of ascendant producer Connor Seidel, who previously collaborated with the band on the song "Fatal Line," "Salt" was primarily crafted at Seidel's Treehouse Studio—an idyllic haven north of Montreal.
The album reflects the band's commitment to pushing their artistic boundaries while staying true to their roots:
“While making this record, it felt as if we were boiling down a huge cauldron of musical ideas,
trying to reduce it to something elemental. What we were left with was Salt”, notes Conner Molander.
This album arrives on the heels with their impactful single "You Can Let Go," a transformative journey through the labyrinth of the mind, and the ethereal "Alco," a song adorned with elven textures and masterful use of silence. The bittersweet folk ballad "Heartbeat" channels Nebraska's yearning, and "Gigafire" confronts climate anxiety and environmental devastation, while "Goodbye Cali" paints an immersive picture of the perils of life on the road.
Physical LP copies of Salt will be available starting 8th September, offered in both standard 180g black vinyl and a limited-edition sand coloured 180g vinyl 😱.
Since their last album A Blemish in the Great Light (Glassnote/Universal, 2019), Half Moon Run has released three captivating releases, including EPs and reimagined "isolation versions" of classic tracks. The band proudly clinched two Juno Awards for "Adult Alternative Album of the Year" in 2020 and 2022. Their nominations include "Group of the Year" in 2021 and "Breakthrough Group" in 2016.
In our own words, the album encapsulates poignant emotions that persistently seize specific moments in time, wrapping around the very essence of your inner being. It's an experience akin to drifting through liminal spaces, accompanied by a sense of solace and a thought-provoking state of mind. it is truly wonderful and perfect listening to fall into UK Autumn.
As they embark on this tour, the bands trio of Devon Portielje, Conner Molander, and Dylan Phillips (founding members and the band's driving force) promise a musical experience that transcends borders and leaves an indelible mark.
