The bass music scene has always thrived on free spirit, but few have formalised that energy quite as effectively as Duckworthsound. Known to his mates as Luke, the London based producer has spent years carving out a niche that refuses to sit still, blending everything from dirty bass house to grime seeped rollers. Now reaching a new milestone in his career, he has spent the last year solidifying his partnership with the legendary Bristolian vocalist Dread MC. Together, they have birthed Duckplates, a label that serves as both a home for their collaborative madness and a launchpad for the next generation of underground talent.
We got to brilliant chance to bring him down to our humble abode in Salford – The Bag Factory – for an interview to talk all about his career, Duckplates and the future.
The origin of Duckplates is as authentic as the music itself. Having shared stages and swapped ideas for some time, the duo realised they were sitting on a mountain of unreleased material that didn't necessarily fit the rigid boxes of traditional labels. They wanted a space that celebrated the "spectrum of bass" without boundaries. After spending 2023 quietly developing the infrastructure alongside the team at Cygnus, they launched the imprint in early 2024. It has quickly evolved from a personal outlet into a proper community hub, already boasting an impressive roster of remixers and emerging artists found through Duck’s Discord community.

When you look back at his starts, Luke was producing from the age of sixteen, catching the ears of heavyweights like Diplo long before most people his age had finished university. This early exposure shaped his approach to "flips" and dubplates. Duckworths’ production choices are often driven by what’s missing in his sets, leading him to create bootlegs that bridge the gap between genres. This philosophy is evident in his favourite places to play, often choosing intimate, community driven venues in London and Bristol where the crowd is ready for the unpredictable.
Looking ahead, the summer months are looking particularly stacked for the Duckplates camp. With a relentless schedule of releases planned, including a heavy rotation of new singles and fresh remix packages, the label is moving at a blistering pace. Luke and Dread are keeping the momentum high, ensuring that whether it's through a gritty dubplate or a polished label release, their specific brand of brilliant chaos remains a staple of the UK summer circuit. We’re excited and well, you should be too.
Who knows… might just see them in a place close to home very soon 👀
